Dear authors,

Thank you for participating in the 10th Daguerre Salon. You have received your results individually; you can now find them on our web site: www.salondaguerre.paris/en/results-2017/

A few words to end the Salon.

Thank you! Thank you for your participation. Thanks to you, the Salon exists.

Thank you for your messages. Thanks to them, we feel carried and encouraged to continue improving this Salon. This edition was for the 1st time paper and digital and was a double challenge: double entry rules, double judgment, double exposure / projection …

For this first mixed paper and digital edition, we received 3328 photos, 818 photos were accepted, we rewarded 86 photos, with an acceptance rate of 25%.

The exhibition in Paris was the highlight of the Salon with your accepted printed pictures hooked or, for your digital pictures, projected all day long on a big screen for ten days, in the large and beautiful of Art Deco style room. Nearly 1500 visitors came to see the exhibition for ten days, with three major events accompanied by music (Latin America, Blues, Gospel).

you will find as well on our website some pictures taken during the Salon.

We wish you good photos in the coming months, and the whole team is counting on you to compete next year with even greater success!

The Daguerre team.

The 6 Jury members of Salon Daguerre 2017 introduce themselves. Frances dal Chele (USA), Pierre Pedelmas (France) and Shinya Susumu (Japan) will judge the Print Salon and Anouk Graux (France), Claudine Lainé (France) and Bénédicte Thomas (Belgium) will judge the Digital Salon.

FRANCES DAL CHELE

I am the professional photographer & doing the activity [Japan in Paris and Paris in Japan] for 10 years, the activity [Road to Paris] by way of the Ashiya photo contest.
I am making opportunities for Japanese young photographers to make debut in Paris through these activities.
As for my work posture, i take the posture of “completionism in one works” against “conceptism” and pursue the artistic beauty in one photograph.
My motto is “discovery and creation of new beauty”, aiming for a charming work that we have not seen yet.
For these several years, i am showing very pictorial works by my original technique (P + R) photography.

As a jury of Salon Daguerre, I want to look for nice works by the point of “the one which we never saw before”.

The Daguerre Salon is back and we will celebrate with you the 10th edition! This international photo exhibition is organized […]

The Daguerre Salon is back and we will celebrate with you the 10th edition!

This international photo exhibition is organized by one of the most important photo clubs of France, the Photoclub Paris Val-de-Bievre and will be held in Paris in the 14th district.
The 10th edition will take place in February and March 2017, as an introduction to a new season of photography of the 14th district and the “Mois de la Photo” du “Grand Paris”.

With his experience on paper (8 editions), our Club launched last year its first digital edition of Salon Daguerre. The 1st edition was successfull with 5000 photos received. But as many photographers, we remain committed to paper photography – the pleasure of touching, guiding, exhibit – is priceless.

To give you the ease of digital sending and the fun of printing, we decided for the next edition to make a double hit: we propose a paper AND a digital contest.

Dear friends photographers, get ready to start! Dare and share! Your images will be judged by an experienced international jury and your work might be hung or projected in Paris.
A large art deco style room and classified as a historic monument, located in the heart of the 14th, will host your best photos in March 2017.

It is with great enthusiasm and anticipation that our volunteer team is waiting for you and your works. See you soon!

that images can be investigated by FIAP to establish if these obey to FIAP regulations and definitions even if the entrant is member of FIAP,

that any refusal to cooperate with FIAP or any refusal to submit the original files as captured by the camera, or failure to provide sufficient evidence, will be sanctioned by FIAP.

PSA RULES

The exhibition is open to anyone; however, an entry may be rejected when the sponsoring organization or its agent, in its reasonable discretion, believes the entry does not conform to the exhibition rules and conditions.

Entries are limited to not more than 4 images per section, category, or class. An entrant’s images will not be presented to the judges consecutively. An entrant’s four images will be distributed throughout four rounds of judging in each section. Distribution of images shall be in the same round order as submitted by the entrant.

Entries must originate as photographs (image-captures of objects via light sensitivity) made by the entrant on photographic emulsion or acquired digitally. By virtue of submitting an entry, the entrant certifies the work as his own (aliases are not permitted). The entrant permits the sponsors to reproduce all or part of the entered material free of charge for publication and/or display in media related to the exhibition. This may include low resolution posting on a website. Note: Entrants who indicate that their images may not be reproduced or used “will not be eligible for awards” or inclusion in audio-visuals of the exhibition “and could be subject to disqualification” by the exhibition sponsors.

The exhibition assumes no liability of any misuse of copyright. Images may be altered, either electronically or otherwise, by the maker, subject to Nature, Photo Travel and Photojournalism divisional restrictions. All final work must be on photographic film, or on electronic file, or on photographic or electronic print material, mounting excepted.

No title or identification of the maker shall be visible anywhere on the face of an image, print mat or mount entered in a PSA Recognized exhibition.

Each image must have a unique title. Once an image has been accepted in a PSA Recognized exhibition, that same image, or a like “in camera” or a “reproduction” duplicate of that image:

May not be re-entered in any section of the same Division Star Ratings class in that exhibition regardless of media, format, or title.

May not be re-titled for entry in any other PSA Recognized exhibition. Words such as “Untitled” and “No Title” are not acceptable as part or all of an image’s title, nor are camera capture filenames.

BREACH OF CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

If the exhibition determines before, during, or after the judging that an entrant has submitted entries where one or more images fail to comply with these Conditions of Entry, including the stated definitions, the exhibition reserves the right and discretion to delete the entry from the exhibition and void any or all acceptances or awards. Fees may be forfeited in these circumstances. In order to ensure that images comply with the Conditions of Entry and definitions, the exhibition may carry out checks on the images to make sure that: a) the images are the original work of the entrant and b) the images comply with the rules and definitions as set out in these Conditions of Entry. This may involve asking the entrant to provide originally captured image(s), with EXIF data intact, by a set deadline. The questioned image(s) of any entrant failing to comply with such a request for the original image(s) may be considered in breach of these Conditions of Entry, and declined. Such entries may be referred to PSA for further investigation of possible ethics violations. PSA retains the right to investigate in any way all complaints/suspicions of breaches of entry conditions, impose sanctions if deemed necessary, include the entrant’s name on the list of sanctions provided to Exhibitions, and share such investigations with FIAP. Entrants automatically agree to these terms by the act of entering the Exhibition.

Art 14- For any question and or any complementary information, feel free to contact Anne CHIOMENTO-Salon Chairman: commissaire@salondaguerre.paris.

Thanks to indicate in your request if your question relates to print submission or to digital submission.

DEFINITIONS

All entries shall conform to the stricter of these definitions for acceptances to be validated by all the International Organizations granting recognition or patronage.

1/-DEFINITION OF MONOCHROME IMAGE

FIAP DEFINITION: Monochrome

A black and white work fitting from the very dark grey (black) to the very clear grey (white) is a monochrome work with the various shades of grey. A black and white work toned entirely in a single color will remain a monochrome work able to stand in the black and white category; such a work can be reproduced in black and white in the catalogue of a salon under the FIAP Patronage. On the other hand, a black and white work modified by a partial toning or by the addition of one color becomes a color work (polychrome) to stand in the color category; such a work requires color reproduction in the catalogue of a salon under FIAP patronage.

PSA DEFINITION : An image is considered to be Monochrome only if it gives the impression of having no color (i.e. contains only shades of gray which can include pure black and pure white) OR it gives the impression of being a greyscale image that has been toned in one color across the entire image. (For example by Sepia, red, gold, etc.) A greyscale or multi-colored image modified or giving the impression of having been modified by partial toning, multi-toning or by the inclusion of spot coloring does not meet the definition of monochrome and shall be classified as a Color Work.

2/-Definition of photography: “Open” Color

All techniques are allowed. Creativity is allowed in this category.

3/-Photo travel definition (PSA):

A Photo Travel image expresses the characteristic features or culture of a land as they are found naturally. There are no geographic limitations. Images from events or activities arranged specifically for photography, or of subjects directed or hired for photography are not appropriate. Close up pictures of people or objects must include features that provide information about the environment. Techniques that add, relocate, replace or remove any element of the original image, except by cropping, are not permitted. The only allowable adjustments are removal of dust or digital noise, restoration of the appearance of the original scene, and complete conversion to greyscale monochrome. Other derivations, including infrared, are not permitted. All images must appear natural.

4/- In the City-definition

A photograph of this subject will present the characteristics of a town or of life in the city. So we accept photographs showing the social, cultural, sporting, economic of the city where the urban environment is identifiable. Urban transport, architecture in an urban setting, street events, marches are all subjects acceptable for this category.

The techniques that add, move or remove an item, with the exception of a simple cropping, are not permitted. All corrections must seem natural. The conversion to black and white is permitted. Any other alteration, as infrared, is unacceptable.
